It's notoriously difficult to find information about candidates running for local office. Yet the people who serve in local government have a direct effect on our daily lives: making the policies that determine what kind of neighborhood we live in, and the decisions that shape how our children are educated.
After conversation with a variety of local nonprofit and community leaders, Love Thy Neighbor Chester County decided to take on a new project in 2025: the creation of a Voter Guide for Chester County School Boards, Township Supervisors, Mayors, and Borough Councils. We asked each candidate five questions about their views on our core values of diversity, democracy, and humanity, and are publishing the results here on our website.
You are welcome to share this Voter Guide wherever you'd like – on your social media feeds, within your own religious communities, with neighbors in your local municipality or school district – anywhere. We are not making any endorsements of candidates or parties on the Voter Guide. Our goal is simply to fill a gap in available information for local races, and to encourage nonpartisan voter turnout amongst people of faith in both primary and general elections.
Great question! Most people only pay attention to voting in Presidential election years - but in our state, you can vote in at least one election every year. (You can vote in two elections per year, if you're registered as a Republican or a Democrat.)
The Primary Election is on May 20, 2025.
In our state, only registered Democrats and Republicans can vote in a Primary - and they can only vote for candidates running in their own party. This is how you choose which candidate will represent your party in the General election. Sometimes only one person runs in the Primary - but sometimes multiple people are competing to be your party's candidate in the General election.
Our Voter Guide lists everyone running in both major parties. However, we've only published guides for races where at least one candidate responded to our questions. If you don't see your Borough, Township, or School District listed in our guide, please encourage candidates in your area to respond to our General Election questionnaire, which will be sent out in September.
You can find more info about voting in Pennsylvania on our state election website. You can find your polling place and vote in person on Election Day, or visit the Chester County Voter Services page for information about mailing in your ballot.
The General Election is on November 4, 2025.
We will update our Voter Guide later this year, with information about candidates running in the General Election. If there are particular issues you'd like us to ask your local candidates about, e-mail us at lovethyneighborchesco@gmail.com.
There are lots of ways to serve and make a difference, in your community - but it's important to keep our democracy strong.
Learn about your local government. Evaluate where the candidates stand on your values, and on the issues that matter to you. Vote every year!
